Domenico Dragonetti (Venice 1763-London 1846)
Italian composer and double bass player. He’s considered the greatest of its time and one of the best in the entire history of the instrument. His successful career developed over several European cities, beginning in his hometown of Venice, and ending in London, where he died at the age of 83. He composed many works for solo double bass, several of which have unfortunately been lost. About 20 manuscripts of his works have survived and they belong in the collection of the British Library.
